MAMMALS
Many species of mammals that used to occur naturally in our area have been hunted out or have moved away due to habitat destruction. Fortunately, we have become more aware of our environment and some species have been re-introduced in game reserves and on private game farms. The recent trend to drop game fences between co-operative neighbours has gone a long way to opening up the area to game to again wander free as it used to in days gone by. The following is a list of mammals that occur naturally or have been re-introduced so successfully that they can be considered wild in our area:-
